An illustrated lecture by Dr Rosie Llewellyn-Jones on her recent publication Empire Building: The Construction of British India 1690-1860, with drinks and dinner at the East India Club, 16 St James’ Square, London SW1Y 4LH, on Wednesday 31 May.

Dr Llewellyn-Jones, who is the editor of BACSA’s journal Chowkidar, looks at the wide-ranging impact of the East India Company and its engineers on the built and rural environment of India. Her latest book follows numerous publications on Indians and the British during the period of British rule.

We will meet from 6 pm for drinks (cash bar) in the East India Room, with its rich collection of portraits, before the illustrated lecture at 6.30 pm in the Clive Room. A three course dinner with coffee will follow in the East India Room. Signed copies of the book will be available to buy.

The lecture and dinner cost £52 per person. Drinks from the cash bar are in addition.

Tuesday 16 May is the last day to apply for tickets. Attendance is limited to 40 places.
